Joanne Horne, Senior Consultant Joanne Horne - Small

Joanne Horne is also a member of the Energy Institute and a graduate in Fuel and Energy Engineering from the University of Leeds. Since graduating in 1990, much of her academic and industrial experience has focused on solving combustion related issues for the oil and gas turbine industries.

Working in partnership with global companies she is a proactive team player who has the ability to facilitate a project successfully through the use of strong organisation and clear communication. Practical and decisive leadership are particular strengths, which give her the ability to direct and motivate others.

Owen Jones, ConsultantOwen Jones - Small

Owen is an innovative, creative and versatile technical engineer. He has an excellent track record of project management in combustion and energy related fields, in accordance with the ISO 9001 quality system. Owen has strong problem solving and analytical skills, complimented by good financial awareness and management qualifications.

Owen has 10 years of experience working as a technical engineer in the aerospace industry and in his previous roles he has been involved in a number of innovative projects including low emissions combined heat and power plant, process control and combustion of low calorific value and alternative fuels. He has a good working knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes, gained predominantly in the aerospace industry.

Bob Maddison, Senior ConsultantBob Maddison - Small

An excellent, practical applier of energy management solutions throughout industry. Bob is a Member of the Institute of Plant Engineers and registered as a technician with the CEI. Bob is highly organised and with an excellent background as an Energy Manager responsibile for many £M spend. Works with a professional approach, taking pride in the job and maintaining high standards to achieve results within timescales. Enjoys both working as a team or alone using his own initiative.

Ian Masters, Operations DirectorIan Masters - Small

Ian has 24 years experience in the energy management sector. During his 10 years in energy management consultancy, Ian worked on a wide variety of assignments in the UK public and private sectors and for the European Union. Projects include: energy management training in Eastern Europe; preparation of energy efficiency guides for the European chemical and paper sectors for publication and distribution by the EU; energy strategies for the City of Prague and Trafford Park (Manchester); implementation of a pilot energy monitoring and targeting programme for a UK utility company; energy and feasibility studies in most UK industrial sectors.

During his 14 years in industrial contract energy management, Ian developed a number of cost-effective outsourced utility supply solutions for blue-chip industrial companies. Recent projects have included: a 10-year utility and energy management solution for Unilever Bestfoods; a comprehensive utilities and hard services contract with a global drinks manufacturer.

Ian now wants to use his experience to assist organisations to select and develop optimum utilities and services solutions that meet their specific needs.

Simon Morton, Senior ConsultantSimon Morton - Small

Simon has 19 years of experience in the energy sector including 15 years in capital project development. With PI Renewables he has been developing a renewable energy business comprising 80MW of wind projects. This has included raising market funds, selection and securing of sites, project technical and environmental design, production of multi-disciplinary environmental statements and contract negotiation. He is also involved in the development of other renewable projects including landfill gas, waste wood, energy crops and biofuels.

Through Power Interchange he provided diverse consultancy in the energy market including the private sector rehabilitation of the Varzhike Hydro-Electric power station in Georgia, and the development of a 1000MW offshore wind farm in the UK. At Clarke Energy he played a leading role in developing Combined Heat and Power and Mine Gas projects and was also responsible for the company’s electricity sales activities.

Before joining Clarke Energy Simon held a senior development position at Scottish and Southern Energy within a newly created Contract Energy Management business. He was responsible for successfully developing and delivering a £20m portfolio of energy projects in the healthcare, horticultural, commercial and industrial sectors. He managed the full development process from identification of potential projects through to financial close. This included all the technical, commercial, legal and market due-diligence necessary for delivering an investment grade project for the Board to fund.

Simon started his career in the energy industry in 1987 joining AHS Emstar where he held a number of key projects, sales, commercial and operational positions. As Building Services Manager for Scotland he was responsible for the revenue delivery, business retention and operation of 60 contracts managing a team of 23 engineers.

Darrin Rooney, Senior ConsultantDarrin Rooney - Small

Darrin has 19 years experience in the energy sector generally. At PI Renewables, he has been developing and advising on major renewable energy projects including wind farms, landfill gas and biodiesel as well as smaller domestic biomass projects. This work entails all aspects of commercial, technical, environmental and financial appraisal for project delivery.

At Power Interchange, notable consultancy work included the management of a programme of initiatives for the state owned electricity company in Nigeria, aimed at securing private sector participation in generation including new IPP developments, major rehabilitation of two existing stations and the outsourcing of O&M Management.

At Clarke Generation, he co-founded a new CHP and embedded generation business leading to the development of a substantial project portfolio including some 65MW of generation from coal mine methane waste. At SSE, Darrin had a founding role in creating its CEM division and in establishing SSE as a leading player in the CEM market. Successful business included the first CHP horticultural project in the UK, leading to a top industry award, and the first energy services PFI deal in Scotland incorporating a new gas turbine CHP to a large hospital.

At Tanaris Energy, Darrin led the development of a small number of generation projects in the CHP and renewables fields. These included the project management and procurement through the SRO and NFFO bid processes of two renewables projects including a £10m CHP scheme fuelled by wood biomass. Prior to this, he held a senior role in local government with responsibility for energy policy and usage.

Darrin started his career in 1987 as graduate engineer in the steel industry with British Steel before moving into energy consultancy where he conducted specialist energy studies for a diverse range of industrial and commercial clients.

Jes Rutter, Managing Director Jes Rutter - Small

Jes Rutter is a member of the Energy Institute and a graduate in Energy Engineering. He has 20 years experience in the energy management sector, seventeen of which have been directly involved in the analysis of the effectiveness of energy generation and utilisation.

His advice has been sought and given to companies as widely spread industrially as Aerospace, Automotive, Chemical and Heavy Engineering through to Food and Drink, Paper and Textiles.

Realistic solutions have been offered and taken up by organisations ranging from blue-chip internationals with fuel bills running to millions of pounds per annum through to a small family firm with a turnover of just £10M. Most recently, he has helped the large Food & Drink Organisation Unilever, to follow the Contract Re-engineering process leading to a new, modern and effective outsourced agreement. More details will follow on this excellent case study in the coming months.

In 2000 and again (for a wider scope) in 2002, he helped Rolls-Royce nationally to re-engineer and implement energy and FM outsourcing schemes saving many £M’s per year.

Jes works now solely as an external consultant specialising in industrial energy and Contract Re-Engineering and Facilities Management.

His goal is to be recognised as the expert in improving the effectiveness of utilisation of any service but in particular JRP Ltd have detailed steam and compressed air expertise within industrial process environments.

Tim Sullivan, Sales and Marketing DirectorTim Sullivan - Small

Tim has 25 years experience in the energy and utilities management sector, eighteen of which have been directly involved in the marketing, selling, negotiating and delivery of CEM & CHP contracts in the UK. During his time with BP Energy he gained experience of a wide range of industrial and commercial sector customers including Local Authorities, Public Sector, Automotive, Paper & Board, Aerospace and Food & Drink.

He has also been called upon to advise BP in establishing energy services businesses in USA, Spain, Turkey, Japan and China.

Prior to joining JRP Solutions Tim was responsible for the delivery of an energy and GHG reduction programme across all of BP’s major worldwide assets. The ‘EnManage’ programme brought together common process, expertise, tools and capital in a coherent framework that could be replicated across the businesses. The programme was a major success delivering significant financial and greenhouse gas savings over a 4 year period. 

Tim is a member of the Institute of Directors and now works as a consultant specialising in energy, utilities and carbon management strategy and contract re-engineering through RIGHTsourcing to clients throughout the UK.  Tim enjoys interaction with other people from all cultures and because he is adept at building trust and connecting with others he is a convincing speaker and presenter. During the later years with BP Tim developed an understanding of some of the tensions and issues faced by large organisations embarking on functional excellence programmes.

Andrew Squire, ConsultantAndrew Squire - Small

Andrew has over 12 years experience in Facilities and Energy management environments. The vast majority of this gained in high volume, cost conscience, highly regulated and safety critical manufacturing environments.

He has strong problem solving and analytical skills and a history of using these skills to identify and implement cost reduction activities in both energy usage and operational practice. Andrew has a background of not only initiating cost improvements within the provision of facilities and site services but also in creating and installing the management systems to support the sustained delivery of these improvements and ensure legislative and best practice compliance.

Andrew’s experience also includes managing the information, management systems and improvement programmes associated with CCA, EUETS and IPPC activities and in doing so has created strategic energy and environmental policies aimed at controlling and reducing energy usage and environmental footprints.

Jim Deven, Consultant

Jim has 35 years experience in industry, many of which have been in the rubber & and plastics sector, most recently specifically related to energy management, which has included the implementation of a range of energy saving projects and monitoring & targeting as well as the management of a climate change agreement and guidance of Cooper Tire towards the EU emissions trading scheme.

During his period in project management Jim operated in a team of specialists undertaking feasibility studies of overseas plants and implementation to improve their products and manufacturing capabilities and recently lead the team to improve the government owned car tyre plant in Egypt as well as improving the manufacturing capability for a major Indonesian tyre manufacturer. 

Jim now wants to apply his use his experience to help other organisations to add value for their customers by the selection and development of optimum utilities and services solutions that meet their specific needs.
