Research shows lack of knowledge and cynicism of ESOS

The Government launched its Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme (ESOS) last month but in a recent survey carried out by JRP Solutions, 88% of respondents said that they didn’t have enough knowledge about ESOS, 60% felt that ESOS is an inconvenience and just another layer of bureaucracy with 56% saying that ESOS is a well-intentioned scheme but unlikely to achieve real energy savings.

Jes Rutter, Managing Director of energy efficiency specialists JRP Solutions, believes, however, that the legislation is a significant move in the right direction; “The Government estimates that the average large company should realise savings worth £56,400 per year on energy bills as a result of implemented ESOS improvement projects.  Whilst there is still lack of knowledge around ESOS, I believe that the energy reductions within large industrial sites can be substantially greater than the Government’s estimates, representing between 20%-40% reductions in energy consumption. A recent energy audit conducted by JRP for McVitie’s identified energy savings of over 41% in their manufacturing process.”

Questions raised by respondents to JRP’s survey will be addressed in webinar on Thursday 18th September at 11.00 am. The Food Manufacturer will be hosting the webinar to share the most up to date information about ESOS, consider the approaches being taken by key organisations, explore the opportunities that it will present and hear from industry experts. To register for the event, which will be relevant to all organisations not just those in the food industry, please register online at:  Foodman Webinar

JRP has produced a fact sheet ‘ESOS Explained’ which summarises the key elements of the new scheme.  For further information please contact
