JRP Solutions offers a wide range of services to help you achieve your organisation’s sustainability, carbon and financial goals. If you are confused by the big picture, we can help you identify the risks and opportunities in your business and develop a strategy to become more sustainable. Our specialist consultants will be pleased to guide you to achieve your goals through the range of services below.

Climate Change Risk Assessment and Mitigation

Rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, extreme weather events and sea level rise brought about by climate change will all have consequences for water supplies, infrastructure, agriculture, social services, healthcare, transport, your employee’s lives and many other areas that could impact on your organisation’s future.

In addition to taking steps to minimise your impact on the environment, your organisation needs to understand how it will be affected by climate change and have policies and investment priorities that enable climate-resilient growth. The organisation will need to adapt as climate change affects its operations, markets, supply chains and investment decisions.

JRP’s Climate Change Risk Assessment and Mitigation service includes:

  • Change Risk Assessment to identify and prioritise key threats and opportunities, timeframes, sensitive decisions/policies, and value implications.
  • An analysis of climate risk management/adaptation strategies to identify robust and cost-effective options.
  • How to finance the adaptation response
  • How to respond to emerging regulations and reporting requirements.

Sustainability Health Check

Investors, customers and regulatory requirements are all driving an increasing requirement for organisations to develop a strategic, transparent, evidence-based approach to sustainability.

If you are considering the best way for your organisation to set and achieve sustainability goals, our Sustainability Health Check provides objective support and is a great place to start.

The Sustainability Health Check provides a gap-analysis of your current operational set-up, including an examination of how economic, environmental and socio/ethical sustainability principles apply to your organisation so that organisational objectives can be “sustainability-proofed”.

We then review how these objectives are being met by current operational performance to determine:

  1. How KPIs and any targets may need to be revised.
  2. How performance data are collected and reported, by whom and for what purpose.
  3. How responsibilities for data development, collection and reporting are shared across teams.
  4. How the results are being applied to continuously improve operational performance in relation to the sustainability objectives.

The aspects and issues covered include the following.

  • Energy
  • Water
  • Waste water
  • Waste management
  • Procurement and materials management
  • Transport and travel
  • Ethics and diversity
  • Health and well-being

Our sustainability specialists have experience in supporting a wide range of businesses and organisations in both the public and private sectors.

Sustainable Procurement

A significant proportion of your organisation’s resource efficiency challenges and opportunities will lie in your supply chain. Procurement can affect every aspect of sustainability. Get this right and significant reductions in energy, waste and carbon will be seen across all aspects of the organisation. It all starts with procurement – get that right and the rest falls into place.

Using a whole life time approach looking at raw materials, manufacturing processes, country of origin, usage and eventual disposal, we will look at

  • What are you doing now?
  • What could you do better
  • What aren’t you doing that you need to do

This could involve going right back to basics and carrying out a detailed supply chain audit to test the resilience of your suppliers in relation to your sustainability policy. We can provide support at every step of the procurement process including product/service specification, support in the tendering process and selection of suppliers. We can equally support your organisation in their own tender submissions.

Waste minimisation audits

Wasteful use of materials leads to substantial financial losses and increased environmental impacts. JRP Solutions can help you address these issues by carrying out a waste minimisation audit. In most cases we can guarantee cost savings that are substantially greater than our fee, and have a rapid payback period.

A thorough audit with valuable outcomes

In manufacturing, wasted raw materials, rejected finished product and excessive packaging – and the inefficient processing and disposal of unavoidable waste, including missed opportunities for reuse and recycling – can seriously reduce profitability.

We tailor our waste minimisation audits to suit your requirements, but in manufacturing situations an audit usually comprises the following steps:

Step 1: ‘Hotspot’ analysis

An analysis based on a site survey and all available relevant data to determine the most cost-effective waste minimisation opportunities.

Step 2: Review of priorities

A review of the analysis results with the client, and agreement of priority areas.

Step 3: Detailed investigation

A detailed site investigation to define opportunities in the chosen priority areas, including:

  • Process flow exercise and waste mapping for each production line
  • Examination of line breakdown data in fine detail

All relevant issues will be considered, including:

  • Reasons for line breakdown or slowing
  • Overflow storage capacity
  • Packaging cost savings
  • Alternative waste treatment
  • Procurement
  • Cost and environmental impact of transport

Step 4: Reporting

A draft report followed by the final version, (produced further to client comments and an on-site presentation and discussion). The report will include:

Waste reduction opportunities within agreed ROI limit Details of cost, environmental and financial benefits (both upstream and downstream) Measurements, data and calculations.

Environmental management systems ISO 14001, EMAS and BS 8555

Environmental impact management is vital to any well-run organisation. The most effective way to manage environmental impacts is using a recognised environmental management system (EMS). From informed advice, to practical assistance and staff training, JRP Solutions can provide you with the support you need to implement an efficient, effective system.

The case for an effective EMS

More and more organisations are awakening to the role an environmental management system can play, and the benefits it can deliver. Key considerations include the following:

  • Purchasing decisions (ie by your clients of your services) often require an assessment of environmental performance
  • Poorly managed environmental impacts have significant cost implications
  • Legal compliance requirements are tightening
  • Environmental impact management is a key aspect of corporate responsibility.

An effective environmental management system provides a transparent, accountable management framework with measured outputs and targets. It will identify management responsibilities and roles, ensure legislative compliance, achieve cost control and reduction – and, importantly, meet stakeholder aspirations and requirements.

Our EMS services

We can advise on three of the most common and widely recognised systems:

  • ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Standard
  • Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS)
  • BS 8555 Phased Implementation of an Environmental Management System
  • JRP Solutions offer a flexible range of EMS services to suit your needs. We can:
  • Advise on the best EMS solution for you
  • Carry out a gap analysis to identify what needs to be done
  • Carry out an environmental audit or review your existing EMS
  • Help to build a new EMS or upgrade an existing one
  • Train or mentor staff and internal auditors
  • Up-skill ISO 9001 auditors to ISO 14001
  • Provide advice and support for the energy management standard ISO 50001

Areas covered and benefits delivered

The environmental impacts covered by an audit may include:

  • Energy
  • Carbon dioxide and other emissions
  • Waste
  • Water
  • Transport
  • Biodiversity

  • A gap analysis of the changes required to improve your organisation’s existing environmental management procedures

If relevant and necessary to your business needs we also provide:

  • A Legal Compliance Register listing all regulations applicable to your organisation’s significant environmental impacts.
