Summary

Amtico appointed JRP Solutions to provide Data Solutions services. Significant heating and cooling are used throughout Amtico's manufacturing process and they were keen to understand how better management of their data could help identify opportunities for energy conservation measures and then track savings from those measures.

Services provided

When carrying out their ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Audit), JRP identified and opportunity to make savings through better use of data analysis and monitoring. This involved installing a new aM&T system. The decision was taken to go ahead with the recommendation. JRP Solutions project managed the installation of the new system and then managed the system which involved a daily review of data, reporting, bulletins tracking GHG emissions and reviewing trends to identify potential issues.  

Benefits achieved

JRP identified that two compressors were running instead of one because of a control problem. This was incurring additional, unnecessary expenditure of £150 per day or nearly £55k p.a. Significant air leaks were also identified and addressed, leading to a further £35k pa saving.

JRP reviewed data from cooling water refrigerant chillers, installed in 2020 to replace old  models. Through monitoring and verification (M&V) to IPMVP principals, and using data from the aM&T system, JRP were able to evidence actual savings from upgrading the chillers of some c£60k pa, halving the annual chilled water electricity consumption and cost.

JRP also identified significant potential savings in the finishing area where cutting table vacuum pump vent directly into a climate-controlled area. The next step was to work with the finishing area manager to agree a technical solution and then build a business case.

Results

The monitoring and management of data identified total savings of >£90k p.a. in some key areas and further potential savings elsewhere. JRP Solutions tracked Amtico’s GHG emissions and produced a monthly target report, with an end of year forecast, so Amtico could monitor their Net Zero commitments and respond accordingly.
