Become an Energy Conscious Organisation (EnCO)
An EnCO is an organisation that is recognised as measurably reducing energy consumption by applying structured behaviour change techniques.
Proud to have worked with:
Driving long-term energy savings through culture and behaviour
While many organisations achieve short-term improvements through training and limited people awareness initiatives, sustaining those savings requires a more structured, organisation-wide approach. Without aligned systems, processes, and accountability, behavioural improvements often fade over time.
The benefits of becoming an EnCO
Becoming an EnCO helps organisations reduce waste, cut costs, and improve overall energy efficiency across operations.
- Significant and sustained reductions in energy waste and cost
- Financial savings that can be reinvested elsewhere in the business
- Reduced impact of rising energy prices on business performance
EnCO delivers a structured approach that drives continuous improvement in how energy is managed and used.
- Continuous improvement in energy performance
- Measured and evidence-based savings
- More consistent and controlled energy use across the organisation
A stronger energy culture directly supports emissions reduction and wider sustainability goals.
- Substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions
- Reduced environmental impact and stronger social value
- Clear contribution to Net Zero and climate targets
Energy becomes part of everyday behaviour, improving awareness, motivation, and accountability.
- Improved employee engagement and motivation
- Stronger ownership of energy performance across teams
- Embedding a culture of energy-conscious behaviour
EnCO status demonstrates leadership and commitment to best practice in sustainability.
- Demonstration of best practice to stakeholders and regulators
- Stronger employer brand and talent attraction
- Enhanced credibility with customers, investors, and partners
Becoming an EnCO strengthens your position in procurement processes and industry networks.
- Improved access to procurement frameworks and opportunities
- Access to a wider community of best practice sharing
- Stronger competitive positioning in sustainability-led markets
Behaviour change, which is the core principle of EnCO, includes numerous people based energy efficiency actions being undertaken concurrently (there are over 140 different types of ‘interventions’ that are tailored to an organisation, each contributing to measurable reductions in energy consumption).
It is much more involved than, for example, just switching off equipment and optimising heating or cooling settings. It extends to leadership decisions, policies, the energy management team, role definitions, targets, data analysis, procurement, design, training and communication, whilst still embracing the optimisation and effective use of technology across the organisation.
To become EnCO Registered, organisations must commit to either implement a holistic behaviour change programme and complete a formal registration process (‘EnCO Engaged’ status) or prove the results of an implemented behaviour change programme (‘EnCO Evidenced’ status).
Some example interventions:
- Assigning energy champions in each department
- Monthly “energy performance” updates to staff
- Implement a low value and ring fenced OpEx fund, for implementation of ideas less than £1,000
- Tracking individual local case studies and celebrating energy-saving initiatives internally
These may seem like small actions in isolation, but when delivered as part of a wider programme they are highly effective in creating a lasting energy conscious culture.
JRP Solutions has both qualified EnCO Consultants and an EnCO Practitioner, with extensive experience delivering energy behaviour change programmes. We support organisations in designing, implementing, and embedding EnCO-aligned strategies that deliver measurable results.
Why choose us
Our CEO, Jes Rutter, played a central role in establishing the Energy Conscious Organisation (EnCO) initiative as a Founder Member and is Chair of the EnCO Foundation, which continues to shape how behaviour change is applied across the sector today.
The EnCO initiative was launched in conjunction with the Energy Institute to promote widespread adoption of behaviour change techniques that reduce energy consumption. As experienced delivery partners, we help organisations turn this framework into practical, sustained performance improvement.
