Summary

Quartet Community Foundation, a highly respected charitable organisation, reached out to a number of firms to work with them on an Environmental Audit.They shortlisted two consultancies and appointed JRP to carry out the audit.

Approach

Quartet did not have an environmental management system in place. From a site visit and associated desktop analysis, it was evident that there were good intentions but the need for a formalised management system was clear. This was particularly important as Quartet is a charitable organisation that must be seen to be operating with the utmost regard to the natural environment. JRP's report outlined an initial roadmap for Quartet to follow and begin their journey of excellent environmental management. The priority actions were identified as being:

• Environmental policy
• Review of investments
• Property management
• Full supplier review and formalised procurement process
• Publications
• Implement energy and water savings from aspects and impacts register
• Events

Results

The review of Quartet’s environmental practice and metrics will help in consolidating existing good practice and establishing what further improvements could be made and how It focused on resource efficiency supported by good governance practice, referencing established international standards and guidance. Potential opportunities for Quartet to improve corporate performance in ways that could realise cost-savings, as well as securing reputational benefits, were identified.
