Important news regarding ESOS

A major change to the Government's Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) Phase 3 has been announced today.
On 25th May, we posted an update on our website with with a link to the EA newsletter which gave some information about how ESOS Phase 3 was going to be different from ESOS Phase 2. (Link here.) Although there were still a lot of details to be confirmed, it was clear that the requirements on qualifying companies are going to be more onerous. This left many with serious concerns about how the audit work was going to be achieved by the compliance date - 5th December 2023. JRP lobbied for this date to be delayed.
It has now been announced that the compliance date has been extended until 5th June 2024. This is obviously very welcome news, but there is still a lack of clarity around some of the additional requirements and some of these will mean additional costs that organisations won’t have budgeted for.
As mentioned, JRP have been in talks with DESNZ (the successor to BEIS) in order to seek confirmation on the detail and progress is being made. As soon as we have any more details we will share these with you.
We will also be holding a webinar, hosted by EDIE and in conjunction with a senior representative from DESNZ, on 27th July to explain what has changed and how this could affect your organisation and to answer an questions you may have. More details of this webinar will be published here closer to the time.
You will find more information on our ESOS Info Hub here and about integrating ESOS in your Net Zero plans here.
In the mean time, if you have any questions about ESOS or would like a fee proposal for JRP to carry out your audit, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
