FREE FACTSHEET: Changes to the law on waste segregation from 2025

From 31st March 2025, all domestic households and commercial organisations will need to have implemented separate food waste storage and collection processes, whether collection is by a local authority or a commercial waste management company. 

This means understanding what waste is produced, with what frequency, and how the different waste streams should be stored and collected to be compliant with the new legislation. The intent is for everyone to collect waste separately i.e. food waste, recycling and residual waste, as a minimum, with an option to further separate recycling types if this is deemed the most effective option. Statutory guidance is still to be released, but outline timing has been announced that everyone should be aware of and planning to achieve.
