Fraud teams raid French food plants in horsemeat scandal

Fraud agents investigating the contamination of ready meals with horsemeat arrived at two French food-processing plants today.

The French fraud office inspectors visited the huge Comigel and Spanghero factories in France, through which the meat passed before reaching supermarkets.

The scandal emerged when Findus, a food company based in Sweden, announced last Thursday that it had withdrawn its beef lasagne from stores as a precaution, after Comigel, its supplier, flagged up concerns about the meat in its supply chain.
